It's a bit of a pain to remove and sharpen a lawnmower blade, but it is a necessary part of maintenance. Dull blades tear grass and stress it out. Sharpening a blade is not a difficult task.

There is a vast range of lawn mowers on the market, each in a different price range offering different features. But the most important feature of your lawnmower is the blade - the tool that actually cuts the grass.

All blades will dull over time….if you allow the blade to stay dull, there will be repercussions. A dull blade will have to work harder to cut the grass, and will not cut it as cleanly as a sharp blade. This damages the grass, and it also can damage the mower engine, as the engine will have to work harder to power the blade.

Lawnmower Blades

Read the manual on your lawnmower. Lawnmower blades are made from a variety of materials - and some are not capable of being sharpened by the owner.

1. The manual will tell you how to remove the blade
.
2. If the mower is electric, pull out the plug, if battery operated, remove the battery, and if it's a gasoline engine, remove the spark plug and make sure the gas tank is simple. The reason is simple. Most accidents regarding lawn mowers entail the blade cutting off a few fingers, either when the operator is trying to remove a jam with their bare hand, or taking off the blade and accidently starting the mower. Regardless of how unlikely you think it is - better safe than permanently sorry.

3. Tip the mower over - but be careful in doing so, so no oil spills from its reservoir and gets into the air filter.. Wedge a piece of scrap wood against the blade to prevent it from moving while you use the appropriate wrench to unscrew the blade and remove it. Wear gloves.

4. Place the blade in a vice.

5. Sharpen the blade with a file or grinder.

6. Check the balance of the blade by putting a screwdriver through the center hole, and then holding the screwdriver out horizontally. If the blade tilts one way or the other, carefully file off a bit of the heavier side.

6. Refit the blade.

7. Replace the sparkplug, battery or electric cord.

It's always best to sharpen the blade every couple of months.

If you don't want to go to the bother of sharpening your blade, you can always buy spares and put a new blade on the mower. Bring the old blade into a hardware store and have them sharpen it. Then store it in a safe place so no one will be able to cut their hands on it.

John Deere was established as a company making implements for agriculture. The tractors of this company are famous for its working and are being used all over the world. Read about one of the tractors of this company in this article.

The worldwide Company - John Deere

The company that started as one-man company in early nineteenth century, is now about 180 year old now employees nearly 47,00 persons and does the business worldwide. The company manufactures agricultural equipments, construction equipments, and power systems and spare parts for its products.

The company is famous for its tractors and the tractors are well received in the market. It manufactures tractors from 18 HP to 450 Hp in about 13 series and it might be difficult to give the information about the entire range of products. We will examine one tractor carefully and read about the pros and cons of this tractor as a representative of the company. We would select the tractor with the smallest power as a home gardener we will be interested in the smaller size tractor.

The model we have selected is the 2210 4WD compact tractor.

The Power plant: The features of the tractor look very good and power plant gives 23 HP, through a liquid cooled engine. It uses diesel as fuel and is very economical in the use of fuel. The coolant flow is a generous 5.5 gallons per minute keeping the engine cool.

Other features: The tractor has a 4-wheel drive and the 4 wheel to 2 wheel drive can be selected when the tractor is working. The wheels can be locked individually to increase traction when it is required for other wheels. The power take off points are provided in the rear and in the middle for supplying power to other implements when it is required.

Driver comfort: It features hydraulic transmission so you do not have problems in shifting gears while driving. You can also make direction changes easily with the power steering. The controls are operated through Twin Touch? two-pedal foot control. This leads to driver comfort and ease of driving. The engine is mounted on isolators and hence the engine vibrations are not transmitted to the driver decreasing driver fatigue.

Engine Reliability: The engine is reliable and works up to the last drop of fuel. On refilling of fuel, the auto bleed removes the air in the system and the engine starts immediately. The tractor has oil immersed wet disk brakes and the action is quick and responsive

Safety features: The engine will not start unless the operator is in seat and the tractor meets all the ASAE, SAE and OSHA standards. It makes this tractor as very safe and easy to use.

Costs: The tractor retails at prices starting from $10,000 upwards.

Attachments to the tractor: The tractor is versatile and can take up many attachments. One such attachment is the 54-inch blade that can turn the tractor into a front-end loader. The attachment features a concave surface blade with heavy gauge construction with reinforcing angle added to the rear of blades for added strength.

The attachment can be tilted through 30 degrees for effective use. With help of this attachment, you can do shifting of soil if there is any need or do the leveling of the field.

Extensive search on internet did not give any adverse remark.

Buying a lawn mower can be quite overwhelming with all of the selection available. (...)

Buying a lawn mower can be quite overwhelming with all of the selection available. In this article you will learn more about the different types of lawn mowers to enable you to find the right one for your particular needs and yard.

Choosing A Lawn Mower Using Reviews
There are many different kinds of lawn mowers in the stores. It is very easy for you to become overwhelmed by the selection. From hand-operated walk behind mowers, to cordless mowers, to the robo-mower, you will find many different kinds of electric lawn mowers. There are very similar kinds of mowers available in gas powered varieties as well.

When you are ready to purchase a lawn mower, then you may find that all of the choices leave you feeling confused and unsure of which one to get. With this information, you will find that you will be more able to find the right lawn mower for you and your particular needs.

How Big Is Your Yard?
The acreage that you regularly mow should be your most important criteria in your lawn mower selection. If you normally mow less than one acre of land, then you may want to choose a hand-operated mower. It would work well for the amount of land that you mow. It will give you a neat and trim yard and can help you burn off a few calories as well. If you have several acres of lawn, then this may not be the best choice for you. A hand-operated and battery-operated mower might be less expensive, but they will take more time to mow and to take care of-especially in the case of the battery-operated mower.

Electric Or Gas Powered Mowers
If you are a person who devotes their time to taking care of the environment, then you will most likely want to choose an electric mower thinking that you are doing to best thing for the environment.

However, if you think about it a little more, you may determine that your local pollution levels will decrease, but you will really not be making an impact on the overall pollution in the country. It depends upon the energy consumed and the carbon particulates that are released into the air.

You are right in thinking that an electric lawn mower is better for the environment on the local level, but finding alternative fuels and energy sources will help the environment more in the long run. That is why you want to make your choice carefully.

Electric lawn mowers need an energy source to run and this may become another concern when you have to keep it running while using it on your lawn.

A gas powered mower is a messy and problemsome choice because you have to continually refill the fuel. They are also a source of pollution.

Modern Robotic Lawn Mowers
If you have a large lawn, then you may want to consider a robotic lawn mower. This kind of mower is convenient to use, and works safely, silently, and automatically. You only have to give it an electric supply and plan out the supply to allow the mower to find it at certain points.

The safety features will astound you. A robotic mower will operate automatically in a safe mode to help keep your family and pets safe from harm. If your child walks into its path, then it will change its path. If it gets stuck, then the blades will stop rotating. It is a great and safe idea if you have a great deal of acreage to help save you time and energy.

By knowing the choices that are available to you, you will be able to make a decision that you will be satisfied with for a very long time.

Most riding lawn mowers are machines fun ride and extremely cool to look at. However, they are just a dream for many gardeners who can not afford one of these powerful gardening equipment. A riding mower can be a practical time saving machine for professionals as well as for beginner or amateur landscapers. If you are on of those homeowners, lucky to maintain a large yard, it can be a good idea to invest in a riding mower.

We will explain first the type of mowers on the market and then which one would fit better with your current needs. Basic riding mowers are actually those featuring rear engines. They use to come with small horsepower engines, usually mounted under the operator's seat. These mowers have reasonable power sized cutting blades and fit perfectly into small lawns with less than 1 acre. The next level up is for medium horsepower riding lawn mowers; these mowers use to include their engines at the front; there can fit larger engines due to the space. They have a stronger and faster cutting capacity. Medium riding mowers provide better performance on hilly gardens and are the perfect complement for yards between 1 and 3 acres. Commercial riding lawn mowers are designed for really large yards, including sport fields, they can be extremely expensive for homeowners and won't really provide their best performance in yards no bigger than 3 yards.

Here you can find some important points to have in mind before you decide on the most suitable model that would better fit with your necessities. The final choose will depend basically on:

•	The type of terrain of your mowing area as well as the size of it. And what other tasks would you like to do with your new lawnmower?. It is also very important to know whether or not the area includes slopes or hilly areas. The most flat is your mowing area the better performance you will get from the machine.
•	It is always extremely important to select a comfortable seat, especially when you will be sitting for a long time. You will save a lot on back injuries and other common diseases related with sat jobs. There is no choice with that, it's preferable that the mower's seat be comfortable enough, don't make the mistake that most do, it worth.
•	Does the garden include trees or rocks that require permanent change of direction during the mowing process? It's very important to find all the finishing touch to choose amongst steering wheels and tires.
•	There are different bagging or recycling grass options; here you have mainly to mulching or to bagging. While mulching will cut the grass into fine clippings and then give it back to your lawn, providing nutrients to it, the second will just fill up a rear bag, being easier for the rider to empty and replace it with new ones.
•	There are many attachments on the market to choose from. You probably just need a riding lawnmower including normal features. In addition, you can usually attach other features, like the ones to remove snow during winter time.

If you spend a little time regularly to properly care for and maintain your lawnmower, this can be beneficial in a number of ways. (...)

If you spend a little time regularly to properly care for and maintain your lawnmower, this can be beneficial in a number of ways. The first is that your lawnmower will last on awful lot longer, and the second is that your lawn will look better because the mower will be cutting it more evenly. So let's review a few lawnmower maintenance steps to help you get the best results for your lawn.

Actually, having the proper mower for your lawn is the first step. If you have a very large yard, a riding lawnmower or lawn tractor will probably make most sense. If your yard is small to medium sized, perhaps a walk behind mower with high wheels will work better, especially if your yard has any steep slopes. If it's a small yard, you might be able to get away with an electric mulching lawnmower or even a reel type push mower instead. There are pluses and minuses to every mower type mentioned above. But most often the size of the yard will be the largest deciding factor in which kind of mower needs to be used.

So now that you have the mower selected, it's time to keep it maintained and well cared for. Since the heavier mowing seasons began in the springtime, it's a good time of year to spend time on your mower to thoroughly clean it and make any necessary repairs to get it ready for the mowing season ahead. Perhaps the first place to start is with the spark plug. By removing it, you can usually tell quickly whether or not it appears to be worn and in need of replacement. Since spark plugs are very inexpensive, you may just wish to change it out once a year anyway.

While you're at it, look over all the nuts and bolts that hold the mower together. Because of the vibration that is inherent to a lawnmower, it's very easy for nuts and bolts to loosen up over the course of a mowing season. Sometimes this will even happen without your knowledge, and the bolts may fall off altogether. Having a regularly scheduled time to look over all of the mower bolts will usually help you stay on top of this problem.

At least twice through the mowing season you should try to clean off the deck of the lawnmower to help promote consistent cutting and avoid spreading grass diseases. In order to clean the deck, empty the gas tank first, and then make sure that the spark plug is not connected. Then you can turn the mower over on its side to clean the deck or undercarriage. Using water, you can usually just scrub off all the dirt and grass that gets stuck up under the mower and accumulates over time. After cleaning this area off let it dry thoroughly before turning the mower back over.

The air filter in a lawnmower should be cleaned and replaced on a regular basis too. Usually the air filter will either be made of paper or foam, but whichever it is just be sure to have the replacement handy. If your lawnmower has an oil filter, which many larger riding mowers and tractors do, then follow the manufacturers instructions very carefully regarding how often to replace your oil filter too.

Perhaps the most important maintenance that you can do to your lawnmower that will have a positive effect on the appearance of your lawn is to keep the mowing blades very sharp. Usually it's necessary to sharpen your blades every one to two months in order to cut the grass cleanly. If you are using a dull blade instead, rather than cutting the grass, you are actually ripping it, which makes for a very poor uneven cut. If you are unable to sharpen the blade yourself, then have a professional do it for you.

When the mowing season is over, and it's time to put your mower away for the year, remove all of the gas from the gas tank, and drain the oil from the engine.

By consistently and properly caring for your lawnmower, you can help make it last for many years and keep your lawn looking it's best too.

The lawnmower was invented in the 1830s in Englnad, to replace the scythe in preparing cricket pitches and tennis courts. From this it evolved into the number one lawn care tool.

If you don't replace your grass with astroturf (and to me that makes a lot of sense, but I know I'm in the minority here) you will always have to spend some time of your week mowing your lawn. Grass looks great when its from 3 to 4 inches long, but after that it does begin to look unkempt. Your home is your most important investment and it reflects your personality…and your lawn is the first part of your home that anyone ever sees.

There are many kinds of lawnmowers on the market, from the most rudimentary push-mowers to the most sophisticated remote-control models, the result of over a hundred years of lawnmower evolution.

Lawnmowers have been in existence since the 1830s, when a freelance engineer in Gloucestershire, England by the name of Edwin Beard Budding took out a patent on the mechanism, and it went in to mass production in the 1850s. The first lawnmowers were hand-powered. The first steam-powered lawnmower came out in 1893, and in the 1930s the gasoline-engine powered lawnmower came out on the market, and took it over.

But gasoline-powered engines are loud, and they need quite a bit of strength and technique to start. And…they take gasoline! There are a couple of solutions.

For the smallest lawns, push-mowers work a treat. It's all muscle-power, so you get a lot of exercise out of it.

For the slightly larger lawn, the electric mower works great. It's necessary for them to be plugged in to an electric outlet, and you'll be trailing a power cord behind you. It is imperative, therefore, that you use care with these types of mowers so that you don't run over the cord and accidently cut it.

Cordless electric lawnmowers do exist. Black & Decker makes a few models, as does Makita.

And just as you can now get remote-controlled mops and vacuum cleaners, you'll soon be able to get a remote-controlled lawnmower. Evatech is one company that has developed such a device. It will take all the exercise out of mowing your lawn, but it will still be a lot of fun as you'll operate it via hand controls.

The Advantages Of Electric Lawnmowers

1. The noise. Quite simply, gasoline engines are noisy and you should wear ear protectors with even the smallest of them. And quite apart from your own ears, the noise can irritate your neighbors if you choose an inopportune to operate it.

2. The pollution. A gasoline engine emits from 2-3 times more pollution than a car engine does!

So the electric lawnmower is the mower of the future.

The lawnmower blades are made of tool steel or ordinary steel called mild steel or carbon steel. (...)

The lawnmower blades are made of tool steel or ordinary steel called mild steel or carbon steel. The edges of the blades made of tool steel remain sharp for longer time and will require lesser sharpening over the age of the blade. Tool steel blade is costly and generally cannot be sharpened at the DIY workshop. The mild steel or carbon steel is cheaper and easy to maintain. The blades have to be kept sharp. If this is not done, grass blades will be torn off instead of being cut. Apart from the obvious ugly look, the growth of grass blades is adversely affected as the moisture retention capacity of blade is reduced.

Sharpening Of Lawnmower Blades the DIY Way

You can sharpen the lawnmower blades your self quickly and easily. This operation can take a very short time. The procedure is very easy and you can do it yourself. The following procedure will apply irrespective of the type of lawnmower. Consult the operation manual of your lawnmower for removal of blades.

Be sure to disconnect all the power sources before begin with the process. In case that your lawn mower was a battery powered one, then remove the battery or batteries, depending on the model. Check twice that all the power controls are off to avoid an accidental engine start.

The second step will be finished as soon as you remove the blades totally from the mower. You might need external help to achieve it, using a couple of spanners may help a lot, however be sure that it doesn't slip. BE careful while doing this, because it's easy to cut yourself whether the spanner slips.

Once the blades are out of the mower, you need the number them in order to fit them back later.

Fix a blade in a stable holding or a vice to work easily.

The sharpen process begins here. You will need a grinder or file for it. Make sure to follow the blade's contour and sharpen it to your convenience. Sharpen all blades using the same sharpened to a perfect later cutting grass.

Time to refit the blades along. Make sure to do it along with balancing, if it exists any.

There is an option of sharpen blades without removing them from the mower, however it's uncomfortable as well as more difficult. You will also need a flexible shaft angle grinder to a perfect sharpened, which will save you time.

The last step is the blade balance checking. To carry the blades balancing you need a balancer. A clue to find whether or not the blades are correctly refitted, is checking if the mower vibrates, if so then blades are not well balanced.

There are dozens of lawn mowers on the market, each one suited for a different size lawn and a different type lawn. (...)

There are dozens of lawn mowers on the market, each one suited for a different size lawn and a different type lawn. Prosepective buyers must familiarize themselves with available models before they buy.

It's time to get a lawn mower. Which lawn mower should you get?

There are so many lawn mowers on the market that at first blush the new consumer might find all the features offered to be confusing. There's no need to be. If you know the needs of your lawn, buying a lawn mower is a snap.

How big is your lawn?

If you have a small lawn - than consider getting a battery-operated lawn mower. They, like electrical lawnmowers, don't need gasoline and so they don't emit pollutants into the air. A battery operated mower is rechargeable, and the battery itself will typically last about five years before you need to replace it. Depending on whether or not the battery is a lead acid battery or a nickel cadmium battery, you will need to recycle it properly.

For slightly larger lawns, an electrical mower will work fine. The problem that most people have with the electrical mower is the power cord, which trails behind and, if the operator is inattentive, can get snarled or tangled in something and cause delays. You won't want to operate an electrical mower if there are young children around, as children do have a tendency to like to play with things they shouldn't.

Gasoline-powered lawn mowers are still the most popular, and depending on how large your lawn is, the most convenient. If you have a very large lawn, then you'll want to consider getting a riding mower.

How much does it cost?

If you're going to spend a couple hundred dollars on a lawn mower, you want to know that it is a high quality one that will last you for a long time. There are plenty of places on the web which offers comparison reports on the many lawn mower brands, so that you'll know you're getting the best one when it comes to ease of uses, quality of parts, and reliability.

If you want to get a new lawn-mower, paradoxically the best time to buy one is when wintwe hits, when hardware stores and garden shops want to clear their floor space for other items such as snow blowers. (Equally, the best time to buy a snow blower is at the end of the winter season.)

Whichever type of lawn mower you decide to get - battery-operated, electrical, gasoline powered, and whatever brand, make sure you take care of it properly. Sharpen the blades on a regular basis - that will save wear and tear both on your grass and on the lawn mower engine, and winterize it properly.

Properly cared for, your new lawnmower will successfully turn into your old, reliable mower.

It is common knowledge that gas powered lawn mowers are serious environmental polluters. It is estimated that 1 hour of lawn mower use equals driving an SUV 100 miles. I have read that lawnmowers contribute up to 5% of the nation?s pollution, even more alarming comparisons and statistics can be found on the internet.

Even if you are not an environmentalist, the price of gas will definitely make you a conservationist. Gas prices continue to climb. Personally, going to the gas station with my little gas can is not a trip of leisure, it has always been a chore.

It costs about $7.00 a year in electricity to mow my yard. I used to spend more than that in one trip to fill up the gas container.

Changing the oil, air filter, and regular maintenance is not what I consider an enjoyable event. John Deere charged me $129 one year to do all that, so it became a semi-annual day of bonding between me and ol? JD.

Maintenance on a robotic lawn mower is minimal. Once a year change the blades, a 5 minute task. Every 3-7 years the battery needs to be changed, another 10 minutes or less. Since robotic lawn mowers do not rust and all the parts are plug-and-play, they could last 10 years or more.

Technology has advanced where batteries can now power automatic lawn mowers to do an effective job. They can mow, go back to the charger by them selves, and go back out again on a schedule without any help all season.

Since it is all electric it doesn?t burn any gas or oil. That means no pollutants so we can all breathe easier. Robotic lawn mowers are also very quiet. They are so quiet that they can be run at night while every one is asleep.

Robotic lawn mowers aren?t going to put John Deere or the local landscaper out of business anytime soon, but one day the do-it-yourselfers are going to be the ones that will be the neighborhood oddity.

Kerry Clabaugh runs http://www.bamabots.com, a website dedicated to robotic lawnmowers sales and education.

Many lawn mowers are so expensive that most people just cant afford one. (...)

Many lawn mowers are so expensive that most people just cant afford one. However, if you are looking for an inexpensive lawn mower that might not have all of the bells and whistles of other more expensive lawnmowers, but will get the job done, try a Murray lawn mower. Murray lawnmowers have been known for over a decade for their low prices. In fact, Murray lawn mowers are owned by more people than any other brand of lawnmower. This is because Murray lawn mowers cost significantly less than other brands of lawnmowers. Also, there are many different types of Murray lawn mowers, so there will be sure to one that is exactly what you are looking for. For example, if you are looking for a cheap lawnmower to produce mulch, check out the Murray 22-inch Convertible Mulcher, which costs less than $200 dollars.

If your Murray lawn mower does break down, be sure to get only Murray replacement parts. For example, if a your belt breaks, be sure to get only Murray belts, as only Murray belts are made to fit in your Murray lawn mower. However, with a Murray lawnmower, that should no be a worry, as most Murray lawnmowers last quite a long time. If you are looking for a riding lawn mower, be aware that a Murray riding lawn mower is available, and will almost certainly be less expensive than any other brand. As with all lawn mowers, be sure to mow safely with your Murray lawn mower.

 Mike Yeager
Publisher
http://www.my-lawn-mower-4me.com/

To keep your mower working, get the right lawn mower part.Mike YeagerFor the most part, lawn mowers are durable machines that will last a long time. Unfortunately, all lawn mowers will eventually break down. Because of that, you should always be sure to stock spare lawn mower parts. If you dont, you may just have to watch the grass grow this spring. Fortunately, if your mower does need a new part it usually is not that hard to replace it. One of the most common replacement part needed are lawnmower blades. Don't worry if you need a new blade as most cost around just a little over 10 dollars and are an inexpensive way to cut down on your mowing time and improve the look of your lawn.

Once you or a repair service has completed your sharpening, you can easily reattach the blade and tighten-up the bolt. Always be sure to remember when re-applying the blade that the sharp cutting end of the blade should be facing down, not up. Many mulching blades are convolute, so make sure that the sharp end is always facing toward the ground.

While the lawnmower blades are usually the first lawnmower parts to be replaced, they are by no means the last. In fact, your lawn mower's spark plug, air filter, fuel filter all will eventually need to be replaced. If you need to replace these lawnmower parts, be sure to take them to a local service dealer, so they can help you find exactly the right part you are looking for. Also, most air filters and spark plugs have a part number written on them so you can identify which replacement part you will need.

About the author:

Get your Lawn Mower prepared for winter.Mike YeagerThe days are getting shorter. The nights cooler. And finally, your grass has stopped growing. Looks like it's time to store your lawn tractor or lawn mowers for the winter.

The key thing to know about outdoor power equipment is that their number one enemy is dirt. And their number two enemy is condensation. So start off by cleaning that lawn tractor or riding lawn mowers. Remove any surface grunge with a hose, then get underneath and scrape out any matted grass or cuttings with a paint scraper and screwdriver. Then clean the exterior with soapy water or a quality cleaner like Castrol Super clean. Now you are ready to replace or clean the air filter and grease any cables or fittings that need attention. Next, either fill it right up, or drain it completely of gas, depending on the manufacturer's instructions. Finally, and most important, change the engine oil, always using a quality product from a well known company like Castrol.

Remove the wheels and store your tractor off the ground on blocks if possible, preventing any air filled tires from going square. Finishing off, protect the tractor or mower with a covering that breathes. Something like a painter's drop sheet or heavy burlap is good. This allows any condensation to evaporate naturally, minimizing the possibility of rust. And always try to store your lawn mowers in a clean and dry place. Be aware that some riding lawn mowers handle winter storage better than others do. If you are concerned about how well your lawn mower is going to handle the winter, contact the maker of your lawn mower for specific maintenance tips.
